The Fog that Got Away

A man leaves a boat docked near the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake State Park, shortly after dawn, Sept. 6, 2010.

There appeared to be a  “temperature inversion”  occurring at Deep Creek Lake this past Saturday morning resulting in sections of the lake being shrouded in fog.

So you might be wondering why is the photo at the top of this post from 2010? Please see more text and a second photo below.

Well, I did not have much time to photograph the fog Saturday as I was on my way to finish setting up my booth at my first art festival.
It was a tad frustrating to say the least.

Many of the great folks I spoke with at my booth that day asked me “you must have loved that fog this morning?” I explained my dilemma. Call it the fog that got away.

When I was about 5 minutes away from the festival grounds with about 8 minutes to get there on time my cameras finally got the best of me. I jammed on the brakes of my car and pulled into a parking space next to the lake and fired off a few frames including the photo below just so I could say I did not totally miss the Big Fog of 2013!

The 2010 fog photo coincidentally was also taken during the same two day span of September as this year’s photo. Last year (2012) I photographed another heavy fog photo about a week later in the same month that can be seen here.

When I shoot fog images I always try to include a tree or dock to frame the scene and add some graphic appeal. The top photo is of a state safety worker leaving boat after an early morning patrol run on Deep Creek Lake.

Additional fog photos I have shot can be found @ fog images.

I want to send a big thank you to all the wonderful people who dropped by my booth at the Deep Creek Lake Art and Wine Festival Saturday. I had a blast talking to everyone. It was a picture perfect day. I could not have asked for better weather. Please look for a special post I will have later this week on the event where I will pass along some of the things I learned from my first festival experience.

Thanks for dropping by my blog today! Rob
