When I think of communities in nature I think of birds. Like the Canada geese flying over Deep Creek Lake in Western, Md., many birds stick together . What is the old saying, “birds of a feather flock together?”

The Fog that Got Away

There appeared to be a  “temperature inversion”  occurring at Deep Creek Lake this past Saturday morning resulting in sections of the lake being shrouded in fog.

During a recent trip to Deep Creek Lake (MD) I was able to get much closer to some hummingbirds than I had been able to in the past. The birds would buzz the feeders and then retreat to nearby trees. I am in the habit of wearing an bright red Washington Nationals cap and I have been told that could be attracting the birds to me too. (please see below for more text and a second photo) Read More
