We had a beautiful crop of sunflowers this year. Naturally, the flowers start to fade as the final days of summer set in last week. Wouldn’t it be nice to give the birds something to munch on? Turns out, another member of our backyard wildlife family had first dibs of the old flowers and the sunflower seeds inside. (to see who it is, please see below)
The morning after the flowers were set out on a porch trail, this guy (at left) shows up.
Squirrels regularly compete with local birds (click on the word squirrels for visual proof) for the feeder while the local contingent of chipmunks stay on the ground. But not this time.
As the final photo of this series shows (bottom) the more seeds the chipmunk gathered the fatter his cheeks became. When he could not take any more, he left only to return a few minutes later for another helping. Thanks for stopping in and have a great Monday!
