Before the new year starts, I thought it would be fun to look back on the most viewed and most “liked” posts on this blog as well as some of my favorite posts such as the one below. This post actually ran a couple of years ago long before the blog went daily so not many of you have seen it.

One of my favorite lenses is my 60mm macro. It is sharp,fast and an incredible close up lens.
These photos were taken a few years ago near Deep Creek Lake, MD. It had just rained and I wanted to get some close ups of a day lilly located near where I was staying for the weekend.
I start shooting different flowers and I notice something brown in the middle of one of them.
I thought it was a moth at first. It was about the size of a quarter. I quickly realized it was not a moth!
I could not believe my luck! What a joyful surprise.
I kept shooting as this very small frog worked it’s way up from the bottom of the flower to one of the flower’s petals.
I added some very soft strobe light to the scene by holding an SB800 covered with a Fong dome over the flower.
Every time since after a heavy rain I return to the Lilly patch looking for another frog.
I am still waiting.
I always keep this photo experience in mind as testament to the fact that you just never know what you will find when look at something closely enough.
