Window Art

web cathe

The Washington D.C Area is home to some of the country’s grandest churches including of course the National Cathedral.

The cathedral features magnificent architecture, amazing stone and metal work and my favorite, classic stained glass windows.

Every window is a piece of art. What I found most fascinating was how sunlight filtering through the stained glass painted the church’s walls and floors with color as shown in today’s photo that I took a few years ago.

Toliver Falls is the smallest featured waterfall at Swallow Falls State Park in Western Maryland but in my opinion it is the most photogenic of the three major falls in the park. Western Maryland has some beautiful landscapes to photograph but this park is the best.  These photos were taken during a visit last month. (please see second photo below)

Early Morning on the National Mall

monumental reflections

Washington has some great vantage points. One of the best is probably the view from the top step of the Lincoln Memorial.

I took this photo after photographing the cherry blossoms earlier this year. It was an early day for me. Left home about 5 AM so I would be at the Jefferson Memorial by sunrise. Afterwords I walked over to the Lincoln Memorial for some additional photos.

I like this photo for its graphic appeal. The Reflecting Pool on the mall always adds some interest to a photo, with the Washington Monument and the tippy top of the U.S. Capitol seen in the water.

On that day, about half of the Washington Monument was surrounded by scaffolding. When I was in Washington last week, the scaffolding surrounded the entire monument.

I prefer this photo in black and white as there was not a lot of color in this image to start with, and frankly the colors detract from what is going on.

While I was there, I also took a panorama shot of the memorial, shown below. Read More
