While on assignment for a client in Old Town Alexandria, Va., earlier this year, I saw this shot while walking down King Street on a damp, cloudy Sunday. I have always loved photographing windows and reflections. They are almost pictures within pictures. My goal with this image was to make it appear that the statue was peering out the end of the window to see what was coming down the street.

One of my first newspaper staff photographer jobs was in Alexandria with a now-defunct daily named the Alexandria Gazette. The Gazette went weekly shortly after I left for another paper. It was and still is a wonderful city to shoot feature art in. Alexandria is also home to The Torpedo Factory Arts Center which houses dozens of open studios and galleries, many run by photographers. If you are interested in art and visiting the D.C. area, you must put Alexandria and The Torpedo Factory on your to do list.
