Weekly Photo Challenge : Abandoned

rob paine abandoned

I photographed this abandoned U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail Service box in a deserted cell block at the closed Lorton Reformatory in Fairfax County Va. (please see more text and a second photo below)

web Lorton Prison_Rob_Paine-14

In another common  area an old Crime Solvers sign had remained on the wall of the  reformatory that had closed years before.  Both objects struck me as things you would not expect to find in a prison.

But if you want to hear something even stranger, part of this old prison is slated to be redeveloped into living spaces. Check out this story that ran last week on the Washington Business Journal titled  Live in Prison : Plans for Laurel Hill Get Rave Reviews

For more photos from past posts on this old prison, please click on Lorton.

  8. Wow, great photos! I grew up hearing all about the problems at Lorton. Hard to believe it’s going to be a place that people would want to live voluntarily. 🙂

  11. I sometimes feel that even the post offices that aren’t abandoned have abandoned their on-time delivery. 🙂
