In what is probably the most quoted line from The Godfather Part III, Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) says about his struggle to stay on the straight and narrow : “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! ”
Well, that is sort of how some of us in the D.C. area feel about the snow season this year, it just seems to never end. A foot high pile of snow melts another snow moves in. (Yes I can hear my friends in Minnesota laughing at me as they read this)
One great thing about the snow though, it makes for some wonderful photos! (please see second photo and more text below)
Northern Virginia if full of history. One of the most historic building in the area is the Historic Fairfax Courthouse in the City of Fairfax.
The first session of court met in this building in April of 1800, nearly 214 years ago.
During the Civil War the courthouse was occupied both by Union and Confederate Troops.
The building’s red bricks and arches are a wonderful contrast to the grounds when covered with snow. It is a truly beautiful site.
The obelisk monument seen in the top photo is to the memory of Captain John Quincy Marr, the first Confederate officer to be killed in the Civil War on June 1, 1861. Marr was killed near the courthouse.
