I love having people in my photos. Even when photographing a bucolic country scene like the one above, I think people add great points of interest and perspective to an image. (please see below to see what this photo looks like without a person in it)
I shot both of these photos last week at a local county park. The leaves were turning and some geese were cooperating by swimming nearby, everything looked like a photo in the making. Then this well dressed woman walked across the boardwalk over this pond to look at something while I was taking photos with a 200MM lens from the other side of the park. I lifted my camera back to my eye and she began to stride to the end of the walk glancing my way before she left the boardwalk.
I will admit it is a rather unusual juxtaposition. You do not normally see people in business attire walking across a boardwalk over a pond, but in this case I thought it worked. Finally, when you compare the top photo to the shot below, (which is composed a little differently) you really appreciate the fact that the person was in this photo. The boardwalk even creates somewhat of an artificial horizon!
One other item in the top photo that really helped was the colorful tree at the far right. It is not in the version without the person in it.
These small changes in compositions and in content can really make somewhat dull photo start to look interesting.
Thanks so much for dropping by. I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
