Fall Color in Western Maryland

image Fall colors offer an infinite number of photo opportunities, especially in Western Maryland. (please see below for additional photos and text)

image The top photo was taken of a small creek near the northern branch of the Potomac River. The photo above is of the north branch of the Potomac.

The weather was rather dreary when I shot these three images though the colors on the leaves were pretty saturated.

To remove some of the “drear” from the photos I shot them on the cloudy white balance setting which is almost like warming up the scene with a giant strobe. You can achieve the same effect in Lightroom or Photoshop.

Thanks for stopping by! Rob

  1. Beautiful shots, Rob! Don’t you think this year’s foliage display seems richer than in year’s past? Or maybe it’s just that I’m shooting it all with a new camera! 😉

  2. Bob- very beautiful photos. Check out the Chamber web site (www.visitdeepcreek.com) for information on entering the photo contest for 2014 Autumn Glory picture. That last picture would make a very challenging puzzle! Love them all!- Jean

  3. I’d like to be walking up that creek shown in your top photo – I want to be surrounded by those colors! In Southern California, it’s not easy to find such an abundance of bold fall color. Thanks for your beautiful photography. ~SueBee

  4. I like that second image. Fall to me is about the moods and not just the glory days of blue sky. Your point on warming it up too is spot on. I’ve been playing around with low light, warm color temp balance for a while and you can get some intense colors!
