The first time someone told me there was a titmouse on my porch I did not know whether I should call pest control or start taking pictures.

Fortunately I have learned a lot about birds since then and I have come to appreciate the tufted titmouse.

Titmice have character and like to stand still, which makes them great photo subjects.

The photo above was taken this morning under the canopy of trees that covers our porch.

The foliage is so heavy this time of year I almost feel like I am shooting inside a gigantic soft box. The light is fantastic and the dark leaves provides a nice solid backdrop free of the clutter that can really be distracting when trying to highlight wildlife.
