Backyard Beauty in 60 Minutes

When I speak about  photography to clubs or to classes or when I am working with one of my photo coaching clients I always stress the following  : you do not have to be at an exotic location or take an expensive trip to get interesting wildlife photos. There are endless photo opportunities in your own (or in a friend’s) backyard.

Earlier this week we visited some friends who live nearby and I shot the photo above and the ones below from their back porch in less than an hour. While they are not necessarily award-winners, they demonstrate once again that with some patience and a few strategically placed bird feeders, the world can be your oyster, no matter where you happen to be!

I wanted to thank everyone who took part in the RSVP Northern Virginia volunteer workshop on photography we held at Green Spring Gardens last week. We had a great turnout and we enjoyed meeting everyone who attended. It went so well we are considering holding another workshop later this year.

I also wanted to thank again all the folks at the Fairfax County Park Authority who made this workshop happen. There are so many great things about living in Fairfax County and two of those are we have the best park system in the country and we have the greatest group of senior volunteers anywhere.

If you happen  to live in Northern Virginia and are 55-years-old or better and want to meet great people and make a difference in the community at the same time, I hope you will visit http://www.rsvpnova.org or call our very talented volunteer specialist Carly at 703-403-5360 who will match you with your ideal volunteer opportunity.

Below are the  photos I was most pleased with. Enjoy! Please click on “read more” to see gallery of photos.
