Swallow Falls State Park is one of the most popular destinations in Western Maryland and Tolliver Falls at the park (shown here)  is my personal favorite place to photograph in the area.  (Please see below for more text and another photo)

The park includes waterfalls and miles of walking trails. It is a great place to cool off in the summer and always offers numerous photo opportunities.

This photo was taken late one Sunday afternoon of the smallest falls in the park, Tolliver Falls, where I like to focus my attention when I visit Swallow Falls.

I waited patiently as the sun dropped below the tree line so I could get the light filtering through the foliage. I shot this photo at a shutter speed of a 30th of a second to give the falls that nice smooth look.

I like the scene so much I made a postcard of it and also included it in my book ” A Place Called Deep Creek Lake.” Swallow Falls is about a 3 and one half hour drive from most parts of the D.C. area, at most.

Below is a photo of the same falls taken from a different angle and includes the rock staircase that runs along the side of the falls.
