The third annual Garrett County (MD) Birdfest is scheduled to take place next weekend, Friday, May 6- Sunday, May 8. This great event includes four guided birding trips to four area birding spots in the county. The best part for photographers in my opinion is an aviary encounter scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at the Discovery Center in Deep Creek Lake State Park. Please see more photos and text below. Birding at Deep Creek Lake is a great source of admiration for nature lovers visiting the area in Western Maryland

I shot these photos during last year’s Birding Festival. The aviary encounter provided a great opportunity to get a close up look at the birds outside of their normal living spaces.

All of the birds at the Discovery Center are rescued birds. Deep Creek Lake is a fantastic destination which is an easy drive to places like Pittsburgh,Baltimore, Northern Virginia and the D.C. Area. It is well known for great skiing water sports, golf and leaf viewing but what many do not realize is fantastic place to see birds. 1. I enjoyed your photos so much! I am fascinated by birds so looking at your photos is so fun. I am a hobby photographer and only use my phone for pictures so close ups of any birds are out of the question. I saw a roadrunner perched on a fence post this week and was pained because I knew there was no way for me to capture the photo. I typically take picture a of horses. Thanks for posting.

      1. Thank you for the link. I look forward to checking it out. Roadrunners are hard to spot where I live because they are always on the move. I was thrilled to see one perched.
