A variety of flowers are in bloom at Green Spring Gardens Park. I was attracted to this flower for its color and shape and it appears to work in both a color and black and white format (please see color version below)
This particular flower was in the shade. When photographing flowers in lowlight or shady areas I often will add some soft directional light by using a off camera remote strobe with a diffuser. The flash is not tethered to the camera so I can move it where ever I like ( or to where ever my arms will reach) to add some dimension and color who what sometimes can have a pretty grey look.
In addition to the wonderful garden there is alway something going on at Green Spring Gardens. If you live in the D.C. area, be sure to mark Sat. May 16 on your calendar. That is the date of the park’s annual Big Plant Sale that includes more than 40 vendors of rare and unusual plants
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today, Rob
